Historic Vanessa

Vanessa (human Ursula) from The Little Mermaid.

This dress would be from the early 1630's. You might not believe it, but I think that of all my historic disney designs this one took the longest research. Somehow there are not many references of this era. I mostly found paintings of queen Henriëtta-Maria, but decided to go with a 1630 portrait of an unknown woman by a painter called Johnson upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…

I tried to give her a typical 1630's hairstyle, but that didn't quite work out. It meant that her bangs would've been pulled back straight, but the result wouldn't look like Vanessa.

As you can see I incorporated the seashell twice. Once as a jewel on her breast and also on the background. The green around it represents Ursula's spell.
